ACCESS and Comfort are Riddell Library’s top priority
Not a lot of things stay the same for half a century. Especially best practices for student engagement. And with impressive growth since Mount Royal University’s founding, MRU Library staff were forced to meet increasing student needs with only overcrowded, outdated study, collaboration, and learning spaces – and it was the students who suffered.
How did we make a difference?
"The space is a box of light, both literally and metaphorically. […] It's not just a library building, it's a learning centre." Read more here.
HBI worked with MRU and DIALOG to create a fully coordinated library that included options for every single student regardless of their study habits, preferences, or ability. RLS Library Lighting was added to all stacks at a custom lighting frequency, leading to a functional improvement to volume visibility and general atmosphere. For furniture, adaptability and barrier-free access were the key points, which led to dozens of unique study, collaboration, and learning stations. HBI also integrated the circulation desks and quick access computers / OPAC desks with the rest of the environment. Thanks to this collaboration, MRU students have the access and comfort they deserve!
"The most common remark that I’ve heard from my faculty colleagues is, ‘I feel like I work at a real university now."
– Alice Swabey, Mount Royal University professor and subject librarian
